Our principal engineer has worked for Rolls-Royce Plc for over 30 years, performing stress, fatigue and fracture mechanics analyses to inform the structural integrity assessment of high value engineering components. This has taught us the importance of learning key skills, including application of FE analysis methods, failure mechanism understanding and practical engineering issues. As a result of this grounding, we are acutely aware of the need for quality training and experience to aid the development of young engineers.
We recognise that collaborative working is often required to resolve complex engineering problems on site. This can necessitate the formation of a multi-disciplinary approach involving diverse teams with expertise in design, manufacturing/welding, metallurgy, NDE and stress analysis for example. Longer term research programmes can also be a valuable investment in the development of key technologies, harnessing the capabilities with academic institutions, .
At HEAL, we would be keen to work on collaborative projects, having strong links with a number of engineering companies and UK universities.
We are also particularly interested in supporting the development and exploitation of advanced manufacturing methods, such as RPEB welding, Hot Isostatic Powder Pressing (HIPing) and Additive Manufacturing (AM). These technologies have the potential to substantially reduce manufacturing costs and timescales, but there are challenges in proving product quality and durability, compared to traditional production methods.
We support the renaissance of the civil nuclear industry and new nuclear build programme, as part of ongoing efforts to combat climate change and meeting the UK's clean energy objectives.
